Living From the Sea

I was living in Australia, by the sea, we were practically camping there. When morning came, we would just wade out a little and reach into the waters, to pull out crabs and other ‘fruits of the sea’, my friend (or cousin, in this alternate reality where we seemed to all be a family?) showing me how to hold them safely. The crabs didn’t seem to resist a bit. Then, the next morning it was rainy and overcast. We went upstairs to try and get more light to fish by, but the puddles up there were still too dark. Later, I went to a pub to meet another friend. On the TV, there was a presenter taking about Greek mythology. It seemed that Australia is both an intellectual and natural place.

Comment- I awoke with a sense of seeing the nations as they are, especially Britain’s former colonies. Whilst The US is undoubtedly the greatest and most successful, it’s success has led to big needs and lavish tastes, so much so that people have moved away from the natural life and spend a lot of time meeting ‘requirements’ they don’t really have. With all their large cars, credit card debts and fattening foods, it reminds me something of the dinosaurs, who without any natural enemies (rather than one another), grew to the point at which they simply couldn’t sustain their enormous bulk. In that case, the smarter and (relatively) almost invisibly small rodents took over. Of course, in a varied land like the US, a new lifestyle is possible too, perhaps a net-savvy post-hippy breed, who’ll find a way to a better life there... but something has to give.

Australia, meanwhile, seems to have a more balanced lifestyle. It’s not exactly famous for it’s intellectual side, but it too has universities and libraries and the Aussies I’ve met have all been very intelligent and aware. It seems like a good placed for a new beginning and is high on my list of possible relocation sites (along with Hawaii and going back to the UK).

I just feel I see more clearly what life has to offer and all the wonderful opportunities out there. A dream can awaken so many passions with its vistas of freedom...
